News Directors Not Doing News

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) says these days, those running news departments, News Directors, are spending nearly a quarter of their time on corporate initiatives and about 30% said they were coping with limited staff.

That’s the latest in the RTDNA survey which shows News Directors spending a lot more time (more than 30%) on operations and not news.

About 70% of those surveyed are full-time employees but spend much of their time on other duties, i.e. administrative work, other on-air tasks, production and sales. A whopping 50% of their time went to other departments, besides news. And many were also the program directors or general managers of their stations.

Why not get a quality addition to your news dept. or take some needed time off and have a fill in anchor?
