A group of broadcasters representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have gathered to bring a pair of “significant resolutions” forward at a conference in DC.
The first gets behind the Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA) so that new performance fees for local radio stations are quashed. The act showcases how stations provide free, trusted news and entertainment and says they’re already paying existing copyright and streaming fees.
The other resolution brought to the fore, is a passion of mine, AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. Especially after what we witnessed with the wildfires in Southern California. This act would ensure all new vehicles are equipped with AM radios which is a major part of the country’s Emergency Alert System which delivers lifesaving information during calamities if there is no other means of communication.
Apparently, there were more than 560 local TV and radio broadcasters who were able to talk to lawmakers and build more support for local radio.
