Local News is NOT Dead

Local News is NOT Dead

The corporate capitalists always seem to want more money and to pay the talent less. This is hardly news. So why is CNN (the bastion of integrity? #justsayin) telling us it’s over?

And, we all got excited when Axios decided to start doing local news nationwide, but then they went and sold the company, which then, feign shock, laid off dozens. They got their big bucks, then they bailed on those that got them there, how very un-American.

The reason I started this company was after I lost one too many jobs in tiny town radio. NYC is hardly a tiny town. And, lest we forget, there are already several sports stations on the air in NYC. How about something more innovative? What if we do music, sports, entertainment, business and weather? I know, an entertaining news station?

I’m accepting offers and royalties 😉

Let’s forget about radio, just for a second… as this little engine that could is showing us all how it’s done… The Star Tribune in Minneapolis, now the Minnesota Star Tribune is going all out to show hard work and keeping reporters on staff can be done. They will expand their footprint, with the help of their owner (who happens to be a billionaire). But seriously do any of us believe that WCBS (the news mainstay in New York City (NYC), America’s #1 market, for six decades) has no money? Or do they just want more?

And in California, they’ve found $250 million dollars to keep local news rooms afloat, with the help of Google which struck a deal, the first of its kind in America, with the state Legislature to funnel millions to newsrooms so tech companies will begin to support the journalism they profit from. (The only bummer is some of the money is going to A.I..)

It’s a start, let’s keep it rolling, and printing, and reporting!
