#Fakenews Revolution Over Already?
Uhm, no. It’s just that there’s so much else going on at all times that we’ve barely a chance to focus on one thing at a time. The Micro-focus we desire is impossible.
I heard a talk show host recently say, he can hardly go to the bathroom because he might miss something. Does anyone else remember a time when there were about 10 major stories all breaking at the same time, and with legs? You know, stories that last for days on end and may even become “Evergreen”?
I believe #Fakenews will have legs and will linger. We aren’t hearing that much about it, because the public is growing weary of anything someone else didn’t tell them first (or at least that’s what “they” are telling us).
#Fakenews is slightly reminiscent of #slutshaming. You know blame the victim? So yes, there were “bots” who planted #fakenews in the 2016 Presidential Election, but some of the major players in the business, never really known for spreading lies (or what everyone is now calling “falsehoods”), are being blamed for delivering or sharing #fakenews. They are the victim, but they are being blamed as the suspect. It’s a thing. And, it’s all so confusing.
So we cannot take our eye off the ball. We must be ever-vigilant.
When you are born with a brain, you have a choice: believe what your told or dig deeper.
If you’re from my generation, you surely remember those bumper stickers “Question Authority”. That’s the state we are in right now folks, but instead, it’s Question Everyone and Everything.
