Always a Shame 🗣️

Always a Shame 🗣️

It has always amazed me when there are communication breakdowns in the communication business.

I remember working in Montana at a group of stations and it seemed like there were daily occurrences of folks not talking to each other. I guess it can be easier not to speak, then try to get along with someone who you just can’t seem to agree with.

As the years and cities have gone by, it’s become increasingly clear: it doesn’t matter where you are, or who you’re working with, there will typically be a breakdown in every newsroom, boardroom or zoom room you’re in.

I can always work on myself, in fact, please tell me what you’d like to see me do differently and I’m all ears. The more stress gets coupled with frustration, the more you can count on a communication breakdown. Today it ended a new relationship because the person on the other end of the line was dealing with some severe stress unrelated to me. THey had been thrown into a situation they didn’t want to be in. But sadly that was not shared with me. So, I opted to end the relationship.

But, if I had known what was happening, and if there was a discussion involving open communication, we could have avoided what happened. And I probably would have sent this person a big ol’ box of chocolates too.

Remember, we’re all human, and we can easily help each other out, if we want to. 🤗
