What is Mindfulness? 🧘🏽

My gosh, how many times do we discuss dipping in and out of the news cycle to stay sane?

Reporters and anchors on (mainstream) TV news and elsewhere say it’s a whirlwind of stories daily to keep track of, and some also say, that’s the point, so we don’t follow the smaller stories, that are actually huge.

One example might be last week’s trip to China. Does anyone else remember a time where a planeload of CEO’s for the largest tech companies in the world accompanied a world leader to another country for “talks”?

Seems like nothing?

Ok.

The quote below gave me, the idea — how do we stay present and not detach from everyday events? Whether they are part of the current news cycle, or maybe you have had your own devastating or incredibly positive life event happen. How can we stay present in that moment without detaching from all of the other life events?

I spoke recently about my tiny dog passing away. 🐶

Honestly, that was one of the most devastating things I’ve experienced in years. I knew he was sick, I knew I had to take care of him in a way I didn’t want to, and I also had to run my company, be a mom and teach yoga while being radically present for others. But, how? How can we remain calm and present and meet others where they are at when we can’t even meet ourselves where we are at without screaming and crying?

Some of us are immune to what is actually happening on the streets of America. We may be unaffected because of the color of our skin, our gender, or how much money we make.

But I ask you — can we stay present in these tragic times and not detach at all? I believe it’s imperative.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🙏🏼
